It's Time to Ditch Preferred Pronouns: We Have No Right to Destroy the Young.
It's Time to Ditch Preferred Pronouns: We Have No Right to Destroy the Young.
by John Connor Shade
Guidance of and care for the young has always been the necessary and worthwhile responsibility of anything that's worthy of being described as a civilization.
A civilization that falls into preying on its young, in the name of ideology or financial gain, is not worthwhile, nor is its continued existence morally desirable.
Exploitation of the young has always been a relatively easy undertaking. One knows a lot more at age ten than at age five. And a thirty year-old knows much more than a twenty year-old. The human mind develops very slowly and, unfortunately, true wisdom begins to develop only as one's life is nearing its end. This, combined with a slow accumulation of wealth, means the young are very much at the mercy of a society that is run by much older, wiser and wealthier people.
Many civilizations have found it both convenient and profitable to exploit the young. Historically, disputes between very wealthy Europeans were settled by those in power showing a willingness to recklessly fling away the young lives of the peasant-class after coercing them into military service. It was also convenient and profitable to send children to work in dangerous jobs in mines and factories throughout Europe, and this practice continues today in Africa.
Between 1980 and 1988, many thousands of Iranian children, some as young as nine, were killed after being sent into minefields and into machine-gun and tank-fire during the Iran-Iraq war. Sometimes, these children were bound with ropes to prevent their escape. In other cases, the propaganda they were fed was enough to convince them that their own lives were fit for nothing else than sacrifice. During war, the old, the wealthy and the wise (depending on how you want to use the word) stay safely and comfortably away from the front lines.
It's very easy for anyone today, in a modern Western country, to instantly take a position of superiority and condemn the abuses of children in other times and places. You'd be unsuccessful in finding anyone in any North American or European city who'd approve of sending children into machine-gun fire or deep underground to work in a primitive mining operation. We should be very thankful for this; but we ought not to carelessly imagine that this morbid defect that keeps popping up in our species, and lurks somewhere in our evolved primate brain, has vanished.
While no sane person would send children head-on into machine gun fire, this moral certainty becomes less reliable, and begins to give way to ideology, as we move down the scale of atrocity.
How about mutilating the genitals and ruining the future sex lives of millions of young girls? According to UNICEF, 200 million females alive today have undergone this horrific assault. Everyone on the planet is aware that the practice goes on, and yet it is difficult to raise sufficient objection to put an end to it. Many people find it much easier to deliberately confuse themselves, by moving towards the comfort of moral relativism, than to take a stand against something so obviously cruel and pointless.
Now that the West has been completely infected with the new religion of Woke, it is surprising that Female Genital Mutilation has not been rebranded as "religion affirming care".
The contradictions to be pointed out in our culture are many. The Woke have rejected the traditional religions of their own societies, but are willing to overlook the cruelty inflicted on young women as long as the motivating driver is any ideology other than Christianity. Mutilate away, they say, as long as you're following a religion different than that of Western conservatives.
Not content with acting out opposition to the traditions of their own societies, by giving a free pass to Eastern religions to hack away at young girls, Western progressives have now developed their own brand of ideologically inspired genital mutilation, and have doubled the damage by inflicting it on both girls and boys. This should be expected, as the new religion, in addition to being determined to indoctrinate the young, is also hyper-fixated on equality of the very sexes that they now claim don't exist as fixed physical realities.
We now have two major world religions that are destroying the genitals of the young, and doing so with the belief that they are in the service of a greater good. Wokeism takes this a step further and insists on adding the feature of pharmaceutical concoctions to disrupt and permanently confuse the hormonal and chemical systems of its young victims. The science on this is currently in its infancy, and it will likely take many decades to fully unpack the extent of damage that has been inflicted in the service of this insane new religion.
A feature in common between the old Eastern religion and the new Western one, besides genital mutilation, is one of brave victims coming forward to offer personal accounts of the longterm damage they are suffering as a result of the procedures that they wish they had not undergone.
There is a growing movement of "detransitioners". These are people who are now adults, and who were encouraged, as confused and vulnerable teenagers, to undergo what is euphemistically referred to as "gender affirming care", but is in fact the permanent destruction, for the profit and ideological satisfaction of older people, of their intact personhood. These young people have been robbed of many future possibilities in their lives. Many now feel destroyed, miserable and full of regret.
The lawsuits are beginning to pile up and some of the activists who were cheering the barbaric practice on are now attempting to quietly slither away unnoticed. In this they hope to escape moral and financial culpability as the whole mess lets go in a massive storm of shame, regret and legal action.
Our society is going to very soon be faced with a series of questions on this topic, and so it bloody well should be. Many people are going to want to know how a civilization that prides itself on, or at least gloats about, its care of the young, took to chemical and surgical mutilation of children. How was it possible that a handful of malignant activists were able to convince a large educated population to engage in cruelty against children? The answer, as always, is propaganda.
Over a decade ago, the already existing poisonous idea that people could change their sex was given a boost by the manipulation of our language. It was pounded into the population, from every direction, that gender was fluid and, because of this, we should begin to play with pronouns. Before we knew it, university professors and politicians were adding "he/him", "she/her" or "they/them" to their names. Large numbers of people on Twitter and other social media platforms began to follow along. It became a religious craze of sorts, and anyone who considered themselves progressive or anti-conservative was happy to comply and to show their adherence to the new religion. There is now a linguistic tool that the cynical and manipulative can use to diminish thought in the wider population, and to promote the un-tethered idea that people can change their sex. The problem was and remains, that many young people actually believed it.
Adults fooling children with stories of Santa may be harmless enough; fooling them into believing that they can change their sex is sinister. Some primate in a white lab-coat with a knife and a bottle of hormone blockers is not Santa. In a situation like this, the only kind of language that will do is the honest, simple and direct kind, and the kind that pays full respect to biological reality. That isn't what's happening. Instead, elementary schools are now indoctrinating children into the cult via encouraging preferred pronoun use. Instead of teaching children to understand and cope with reality, they are instead priming them for the operating table and the "gender confirming care" industry.
Conveniently, especially for medical industry shareholders, salivating profiteers are ready to swoop in, prescription pads and scalpels in hand, to perform butcheries and poisonings in the service of the new and booming business. I'm still convinced that doctors and surgeons are generally too intelligent to be true believers in this new religion. What they do believe in, clearly, is the power of cash. I wonder what it must feel like, in the operating room, to have pangs of conscience conflicting with the possibility of owning a new Porsche. In this case, a slight slide into moral relativism probably makes things a little easier. If there is any justice at all, all of those involved in this wickedness will soon be on the stand, being asked very pointed questions by skilled lawyers.
How this is all going to play out is uncertain. What is certain is that if you care about the young, you'd be wise to refrain from playing the pronoun game. Do not give your pronouns if asked, and do not ask others what theirs are. In fact, if someone asks you what your preferred pronouns are, you should look at them as though you've just been asked an unbelievably stupid question – which would be the case. Refuse to fill out forms that ask you for your pronouns and remove them from every bit of business and personal communication you use. We've been played like fools and we have betrayed the young by unwittingly using ideology to pave the way for foolishness and cruelty against them. The young are the ones paying for it now. We'll all be paying for it once the lawyers are done.
Evolution has equipped us and all other mammals with the ability to immediately determine the sex of anyone we meet. There is no need to partake in the use of new and idiotic religious rituals. Human beings have been around in their current form for at least 250000 years. We have a duty to snigger at progressive windbags who demand we believe that they figured out, just this morning, that we should have been using preferred pronouns the whole time.
There is an old English saying that a true gentleman is someone who is never rude except on purpose. In the case of preferred pronouns, it's time for all of us to be rude whenever we encounter them.
